Police Body Cam Video Captures Fatal Shooting of Armed Woman Who Fired at Patrol Vehicle
Body-camera footage shows the woman firing at officers before they returned fire, and investigators said one of her shots stovepiped.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office released body camera footage Wednesday of the fatal officer-involved shooting of 34-year-old Chau Duncan, who fired at officers during a welfare call on the city's Northside.
Multiple 911 calls on October 10 and 11 reported a woman in a purple sweatsuit pointing a firearm at people in the area, prompting officers to search for Duncan.
Officer Cobian approached in a cruiser while Officers Curtis and J. Boykin followed on foot; Duncan pulled a gun from her bag and fired at the vehicle, prompting officers to return fire.
Duncan was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics rendered aid; an investigation later found one of the shots she fired at officers had stovepiped.
The State Attorney's Office will independently review the incident to assess legality of the officers' actions, while JSO plans to conduct a separate internal policy review.
