The fire at the Metis landfill in Pula broke out on Friday afternoon and was completely extinguished on Saturday at 6:50 a.m. A large amount of mixed waste, including plastic and wood, was involved.

Police officers, together with the fire, explosives and weapons inspector, conducted an investigation at the scene. It was determined that the cause of the fire was a thermal reaction that occurred inside a pile of unsorted waste.
