New data reignites concerns about Denver's use of ShotSpotter • Colorado Newsline

Summary by Ground News
Denver City Council was considering a four-year extension of the city's contract with ShotSpotter to the tune of $4.7 million. Opposing testimony highlighted concerns that the technology is not only ineffective and unreliable but also disproportionately placed in communities of color and low-income communities. In 2021, Chicago’s Office of Inspector General conducted a study which found that of the 50,176 confirmed and dispatched Shot Spotter alerts, only 9.1% actually indicated evidence of a gun-related crime having occurred.
