Report: Cowboys S Malik Hooker to See Specialist for Forearm Fracture
The veteran safety is consulting a hand specialist, and a six-week absence is possible as Dallas weighs injured reserve options.
On Monday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Dallas Cowboys safety Malik Hooker suffered a fractured forearm during Sunday's 28-20 loss to the New York Giants.
Hooker sustained the injury late in the third quarter after colliding with Giants tight end Chris Manhertz while reprising his starting safety role in Week 1.
Although some forearm fractures sideline players for six weeks, Hooker is consulting a hand specialist to determine if his recovery can be expedited, sources say.
With Hooker sidelined, Caleb Downs and Jalen Thompson are expected to step up in the secondary, alongside P.J. Locke, Markquese Bell, and Alijah Clark.
Facing the Washington Commanders on September 20, the Cowboys seek their first win of the season while addressing defensive gaps exposed in the Giants opener.
