New clue could identify man found dead in river 45 years ago
The charity says a distinctive bronze medallion could help identify the man, whose remains were found 45 years ago after years of failed appeals.
Dyfed-Powys Police renewed their appeal for information regarding a man discovered at Claerwen Reservoir in Powys on October 17, 2024, by a dog walker. The renewed appeal marks two years since the discovery.
Wearing a black, extra-large Zone 3 Agile wetsuit, the man had been in the water for up to 12 weeks before discovery. Initial enquiries suggest he was between 30 and 60 years old and of white European descent.
Police utilized DNA, fingerprint, and dental records alongside facial reconstruction work from Liverpool John Moore University, noted Detective Inspector Anthea Ponting. Despite these extensive investigative methods, his identity remains unknown.
Ponting urged the public to report even minor recollections from the reservoir area between July and October 18, 2024. "Someone must know who this man is," she stated, emphasizing the investigation remains open.
The charity Locate International continues to assist with unidentified persons cases, recently appealing for information on a separate 1981 River Avon discovery. The organization aims to resolve such long-standing mysteries through public cooperation.
