ISU's Joshua Jefferson Going to Brooklyn Nets as First-Round Draft Pick
Jefferson averaged 16.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game and becomes the first Cyclone picked in the first round since 2020.
On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the Brooklyn Nets acquired Iowa State basketball forward Joshua Jefferson after he was selected 28th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2026 NBA Draft and immediately traded to Brooklyn.
A consensus All-American, Jefferson transferred to Iowa State after playing two seasons at Saint Mary's, where he established himself as a premier playmaker averaging 16.4 points and 4.8 assists per game.
Standing 6-foot-9 and weighing 246 pounds, Jefferson offers defensive versatility and high basketball IQ that the Nets prioritized to address their recurring lack of offensive connectivity and playmaking.
Regarding his new teammates, Jefferson said, "I'm just going to be a sponge," while expressing eagerness to learn from veterans Julius Randle and Michael Porter Jr.
While his three-point shooting remains a work in progress at 34.5%, scouts view the 22-year-old as one of the most NBA-ready prospects available, positioning him to contribute immediately to Brooklyn.
