Netflix to Stream iHeart Video Podcasts: The Breakfast Club, My Favorite Murder and More
- On Tuesday, Netflix announced it will exclusively stream video versions of more than 15 iHeartPodcasts worldwide, launching new episodes in the U.S. next year with other markets to follow.
- Amid rising demand for video, iHeartMedia said the partnership complements its strong audio foundation and offers fans and new audiences another way to connect, CEO Bob Pittman said, `Audio podcasting has been the fastest-growing medium over the past 20 years`.
- The lineup includes The Breakfast Club, My Favorite Murder and Dear Chelsea, spanning comedy, true crime, history, sports and mental health with hosts Charlamagne tha God, Chelsea Handler and Bobby Bones.
- Under the pact, licensed video episodes can no longer appear on YouTube, so podcasters could lose YouTube ad revenue and potentially alienate fans accustomed to watching there.
- Next year, Netflix plans 50 to 75 shows at launch, building toward 200, following its October deal with Spotify as Edison Research found 51% of U.S. audience age 12 and up watched video podcasts.
