Nelson artist Abby Wilson launches new West Kootenay hiking guide

Nelson-Based artist Abby Wilson will unveil her latest publication about hiking in the West Kootenay region on May 31 at 7 p.m. During a multimedia event held at the Nelson Public Library.
Wilson left a corporate job two years ago to focus half her time on writing, designing, and self-publishing this hiking guide and managing its popular website.
The book covers 77 regional hikes divided into 10 areas, including eight local hikes near Nelson, with detailed descriptions such as the moderate White Queen Trail near Whitewater.
Wilson says the White Queen Trail is 10.2 km with 691 metres of elevation gain, taking 5-6 hours, accessible by two-wheel-drive low clearance vehicles, and features big views, golden larches, and a summit.
Wilson’s guide and website, which receives 50,000 summer views monthly, support public use of funded Crown land trails, suggesting growth in outdoor recreation and community engagement.
