Nearly 6 million French press coffee makers recalled over burn risk
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said 70 breakage reports include 48 burn injuries, and consumers should stop using metal spoons in the glass carafes.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of nearly 6 million Bodum French Press coffee makers on Thursday due to glass carafes unexpectedly breaking and causing serious burn injuries.
Bodum French Press makers feature 8-cup and 12-cup glass carafes that shatter if damaged, cracked, or stirred with metal utensils. The CPSC reports 70 instances of breakage, resulting in 48 consumer burn injuries.
Recalled models include Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper, and Kenya, sold nationwide at Amazon, Target, and Walmart from 1974 through October 2026 for $15 to $65.
Owners should immediately stop using metal spoons to stir coffee in the glass carafe. Consumers can contact Bodum to receive a replacement plastic stirring spoon and safety warning label.
According to CPSC safety guidance, the warning label reminds users not to use damaged carafes, as metal spoons cause glass damage that can lead to breakage during use.
