Nearly 19 people taken to hospital after wildfires across West Midlands
Hot, dry weather drove multiple blazes across the region, and ambulance crews treated 54 people for smoke inhalation while 19 were hospitalized, officials said.
Paramedics treated a total of 54 people, with 19 requiring hospital admission, after severe wildfires broke out across the West Midlands during extreme summer heat.
The fires severely damaged multiple residential properties and destroyed at least six homes, particularly around the Stourbridge area.
West Midlands Ambulance Service and local fire crews faced thousands of emergency calls as high temperatures and dry conditions fueled multiple blazes simultaneously.
The hospital admissions included several individuals suffering from severe smoke inhalation, as well as firefighters treated for heat exposure and exhaustion.
The ongoing blazes forced community evacuations, disrupted regional rail networks, and prompted local authorities to open emergency centers for displaced residents.
