Nearly 12,000 California residents bought EVs using state rebate program
The $270 million program offers rebates of up to $3,500 for new EVs and $1,750 for used models, state officials said.
On Friday, California announced that nearly 12,000 residents purchased electric vehicles using rebates from a new $270 million program funded by the state and automakers.
Governor Gavin Newsom signed the program into law in July, offering $3,500 rebates on new EVs priced up to $50,000 and $1,750 for used models under $25,000.
Ford, Hyundai, and Toyota continue offering rebates through the program, though funds for Tesla models have been completely exhausted.
Overall EV sales have declined in California, matching a national trend as President Donald Trump's administration removed federal incentives for electric vehicles.
Legislation signed by Trump in 2025 eliminated the federal $7,500 EV tax credit and $4,000 used EV credit, while his administration moved to reverse state rules phasing out gasoline-powered cars.
