- On Saturday 14th March 2026, Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka, 74-year-old grandpa, was arrested at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while attempting to board British Airways flight BA082 to Heathrow London.
- NDLEA said the arrest was part of a week-long surge of operations as the agency intensifies its crackdown on drug trafficking, Femi Babafemi, Director, Media & Advocacy, NDLEA, disclosed in a Sunday release.
- NDLEA officers found 11 kilograms concealed in foil papers, balloons and ground dry pepper, and the suspect said he was travelling to London, United Kingdom for vacation.
- The NDLEA said the suspect was taken into custody for investigation following the discovery and arrest at the airport, framing the arrest as part of broader interdictions this week targeting trafficking networks.
- This week, NDLEA seized large consignments nationwide, including 339,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup at Apapa seaport, 47,500 ampoules of pentazocine at Idumota market, and 68,000 tramadol pills in Lagos Island, along with over 282kg of skunk recovered.
