NC teen pleads guilty after years of breeding and training dogs for dogfighting, DOJ says
Federal prosecutors say 25 dogs were rescued from three linked homes as Daniels admitted breeding and selling animals for dogfighting.
On Thursday, Juelz Christopher Daniels of Statesville, North Carolina, pleaded guilty to violating the Animal Welfare Act after possessing, training, and selling dogs for illegal fighting.
Federal prosecutors accused Daniels and his associate, Reginald Lionel Goodson, of raising and training dogs to fight for over five years, from January 2021 to May 2026.
Law enforcement rescued at least 25 dogs from three homes linked to the men, while the 19-year-old Daniels used Facebook Groups and Facebook Messenger to advertise the animals for fighting.
Daniels remains in federal custody awaiting sentencing, while charges against Goodson remain pending, including a count of conspiracy to violate the Animal Welfare Act.
U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson stated, "It's unbelievable people still engage in dog fighting activities," affirming the Justice Department's commitment to protecting animals from such abuse.
