Party May Move SC if Odisha Assembly Fails to Oppose MMDR Amendments: BJD
Naveen Patnaik, Leader of Opposition in Odisha, wrote to BJP MPs urging them to seek a reversal of the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill, 2026, calling its passage a black day for Odisha due to its adverse impact on the state and criticizing its speedy Lok Sabha approval with less than ten minutes of discussion.
The Ministry of Mines stated that the amendment aims to create a predictable fiscal regime to encourage investment while maintaining states' rights over land, minerals, and taxation, asserting around 90% of mining taxes currently go to states.
