Avalanche Trade Ross Colton in Deal with Predators
Chris MacFarland said Colton adds grit and versatility, while Colorado gets a prospect and two third-round picks.
On Tuesday, the Nashville Predators acquired forward Ross Colton and goaltender Isak Posch from the Colorado Avalanche, sending goaltender Magnus Chrona and two third-round draft picks to Colorado.
Predators General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Chris MacFarland orchestrated the deal, his first transaction since joining Nashville on June 2, seeking to add "sandpaper and grit" to the roster.
Colton, a 29-year-old center, brings 75 playoff games of postseason experience, while 24-year-old goaltender Posch joins as a developmental prospect after appearing in 28 games for the Colorado Eagles.
Colorado gains salary cap relief by offloading Colton, who is owed $4 million for the 2026/27 season, while Nashville retains more than $27 million in cap space for flexibility.
Both Central Division rivals aim to improve next season, with Nashville targeting a return to the playoffs through veteran depth while Colorado continues maximizing its roster around core stars.
