Seville, Alfred and Koech Shine in London Rain
GREATER LONDON, ENGLAND, JUL 19 – Eighteen-year-old Koech defeated British world champion Josh Kerr with a time of 3:28.82 in a high-quality 1500m race at the London Diamond League meeting.
- At London's Olympic Stadium on Saturday, Koech overtook Kerr inside the final 200 metres, winning the 1,500m in 3:28.82.
- In the past month, Koech had burst onto the global radar by running a world under-20 record of 3:27.72 in Paris on June 20.
- Meanwhile, Medina Eisa edged Fantaye Belayneh to win the women's 5,000m in 14:30.97 as Belayneh set a personal best of 14:30.90.
- In response to the upset, Kerr said `The title lives here`, while Wightman insisted there's no need to panic two months from Tokyo.
- A sold-out crowd of 60,000 braved early storms as athletes build towards the world championships in Tokyo in September.
