WASHINGTON- U.S. legislative elections of 2026 are on the way to being the most expensive in history, with billions of dollars invested in advertising, contributions from personalities like Elon Musk, Bernie Sanders and President Donald Trump, and record expenses in the fierce contests of Texas, Ohio and Michigan.
Elon Musk and other megadonors fund both parties, while Texas, Ohio and Michigan concentrate the most expensive contests.
More than $16 billion has been raised for the 2026 U.S. election cycle, according to Federal Election Commission data from early October. However, the majority of the funds are not going through candidates or political parties, but through political action committees (PACs).
