Murder Investigation Launched After Man, 60, Dies Following Assault
Police said the 60-year-old died eight days after an assault, and a 36-year-old man known to him was charged with attempted murder.
The Met Police launched a murder inquiry yesterday after 60-year-old Michalis Kyriacou died from injuries sustained in a street assault eight days earlier.
On Thursday, May 14, officers on patrol found Kyriacou severely wounded on Chippenham Road in Maida Vale at approximately 2:40am. Police provided first aid while awaiting the London Ambulance Service.
Police arrested 36-year-old Biniam Tewolde Negash, known to the victim, on Sunday, May 17, charging him with attempted murder. Negash appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday, May 18, and was remanded into custody.
The Crown Prosecution Service has been informed of Kyriacou's death. Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie said, "Our thoughts are with Michalis' family and friends following this tragic news."
Specialist officers are currently supporting Kyriacou's relatives as the investigation continues. Authorities are working to "put together an exact picture of what took place" to establish accountability for the assault.
