Tour Bus Carrying Indie Pop Band Catches on Fire on 5 Freeway in Burbank
The band said everyone escaped safely, but several personal belongings were lost and the rear of the bus was heavily damaged, officials said.
On Monday, October 19, the tour bus for the band MUNA caught fire while traveling on the I-5 Freeway in Burbank, California, sustaining significant damage to the vehicle.
The incident occurred after the trio—Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson, and Josette Maskin—performed Sunday night at Stanford University's Frost Amphitheater as part of their Gets So Hot Tour.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the California Highway Patrol received reports near Buena Vista Street at 8:20 a.m. Monday; aerial footage from KTLA showed extensive rear damage, though the cause remains unclear.
MUNA confirmed on Instagram that everyone aboard escaped safely, writing "many personal items were lost but we're all safe, thank goodness ❤️🩹."
The "Gets So Hot Tour" will proceed as planned, with the band scheduled to return to the stage Wednesday, October 21, at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, followed by a Los Angeles performance.
