16-Year-Old Driver Charged After 6 Teens Hit by SUV in Lindenwold
Surveillance video shows the SUV striking students as police say the 16-year-old driver lacked a valid license and faces joyriding charges.
On Tuesday, a 16-year-old driver struck six teenagers with a Cadillac SUV on Gibbsboro Road in Lindenwold, New Jersey, sending all six victims to the hospital. Police charged the teen with six counts of third-degree aggravated assault and one count of joyriding.
Authorities believe the crash resulted from reckless driving rather than intentional harm. Sources report the driver lacked a valid license, though the vehicle was not reported stolen; two people inside were detained by police.
Emergency responders freed one student pinned beneath the vehicle, who was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital. Five other teenagers sustained non-critical injuries, and police confirmed all six victims continue to recover.
At Lindenwold High School, officials addressed the crash with students and provided counseling resources. Student Arturo Caselin said, "Some people were crying in first period thinking about it."
The driver is being held at the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center pending charges. Christopher Barker visited the crash scene Wednesday morning, taping signs of encouragement to the damaged fence.
