Multiple killed after shooting near Moss Landing State Beach, authorities say
Investigators say the shooting remains under active investigation, with no active threat to the community and roads and the beach still closed.
A shooting in Moss Landing left "multiple fatalities and casualties," according to the Monterey County Sheriff, who responded shortly after midnight on Monday.
Authorities were called to Jetty Road in Moss Landing, situated along State Route 1 approximately halfway between Monterey and Santa Cruz.
California State Parks closed Jetty Road and Moss Landing State Beach at the Monterey County Sheriff's request during the investigation.
Deputies and detectives remained at the scene as of 8:30 a.m., though the Monterey County Sheriff released no information about victims or what prompted the shooting.
The Sheriff stated there is "no active threat to the Moss Landing Community at this time" as the investigation continues.
