Multiplayer Witcher spin-off Project Sirius hit by layoffs again, in "broader shift in development strategy" at CD Projekt Red
CD Projekt Red said the team was reduced to match Sirius’ needs, with four staff in Boston and five in Warsaw leaving and nine moving internally.
- On Thursday, CD Projekt Red confirmed layoffs affecting the Project Sirius team, with nine employees departing and another nine undergoing internal reshuffling. The developer cited a "broader shift in development strategy" for changes to the multiplayer Witcher game.
- CDPR stated, "We adjusted the size of the Sirius team to reflect the project's needs at this stage of development." The reduction impacts four people in Boston and five in Warsaw who are leaving the company.
- Despite these departures, the project maintains a substantial workforce after reporting 83 employees in May. Sirius previously experienced turbulence, including a 2023 reboot that saw 29 developers laid off at the time.
- Recently, CDPR hired acclaimed Destiny 2 writer Kwan Perng to lead writing efforts on Sirius. The studio remains focused on The Witcher 4, which is currently the company's top priority.
- Development continues on a Cyberpunk sequel and a Witcher 3 expansion titled Songs of the Past, slated for release sometime next year. The CDPR-acquired studio The Molasses Flood remains involved in game development.
