Mountain lion spotted in San Francisco's Outer Sunset District
Officials urged residents to keep dogs leashed and avoid the area as animal control worked to relocate the lion.

- Officials advise residents to slowly back away if they encounter the animal, warning, "If you see the mountain lion, slowly back away; do not run." They also recommend keeping dogs on leashes and picking up children.
- Animal Care and Control personnel are responding to the area with tranquilizer guns, while anyone spotting the mountain lion is urged to call 415-554-9400 or 911 in a life safety emergency.
- While mountain lions may roam Bay Area parklands, they generally avoid humans. Park officials note that attacks are rare, "but may cause widespread interest and concern because they are widely publicized," urging continued caution.
