Morrisons Confirms Return of Major in-Store Favourite Feature After Customer Outcry
The supermarket said the phased return will restore manned service and add flatbeds and grab-and-go options after backlash over 35 closures.
Morrisons is reintroducing its Market Street meat and fish counters following customer feedback, reversing the decision to axe the service that was removed last year.
Senior executives agreed the decision to remove the counters 'might have gone too far' after the move sparked backlash, as 35 meat and 35 fish counters were originally closed across the UK.
Morrisons has 'significantly improved' waste yield since the closure, and the re-opened counters now feature traditional 'manned service' alongside efficiency updates including flatbeds and 'grab and go' options.
Counters have already re-opened at Great Park Newcastle, Thornbury, Herne Bay, Yeadon, and Bolton Dawes, with the retailer confirming a 'phased reopening' process returning a small number each month.
The reinstatement excludes 52 cafes, 13 florists, 14 pharmacies, and 18 Market Kitchen branches, as the company continues refreshing its Market Street format under group trading director Andrew Staniland.
