More than 400K Jeep vehicles under recall over airbag sensor issue
Owners will get free software updates after FCA US said just 1% of the recalled vehicles are suspected to have the defect.
WASHINGTON — FCA recalled 419,035 Jeep Grand Cherokee models to address a software glitch that could delay side airbag deployment during crashes.
The software error exists in the occupant restraint controller module, causing side airbag pressure sensors to remain active longer than necessary and draining sensor life.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, only 1% of recalled vehicles are suspected to have the defect, though faulty sensors increase injury risks during crashes.
Consumers will receive notifications starting the week of June 11 to visit dealerships for a free software update to remedy the faulty sensors.
The defect affects cars produced through Oct. 9, 2025, and owners can check their VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to verify if their vehicle is included.
