More Canberrans will be allowed to split their block and build a second house

Summary by Ground News
The new Territory Plan will allow two homes to be built on residential zone 1 (RZ1) blocks that are 800 square metres or more in size. RZ1 blocks are the most common in Canberra — about 73 per cent of all blocks have this zoning, which allows for a single, detached house. The changes are relatively limited: they only affect blocks on which secondary dwellings, such as granny flats, can already be built.
