India’s passenger vehicle wholesales crossed 5 lakh units for the first time in October 2026, setting a new monthly record. Maruti Suzuki led the market, followed by Tata Motors and Mahindra, as strong festive demand supported automobile sales. Brokerage Jefferies reported healthy growth in motorcycle and scooter registrations.

India's passenger vehicle registrations crossed the 5 lakh mark in October 2026 for the second time this calendar year, reaching 5,00,001 units. While registrations declined 14.6% YoY against the high post-GST-revision base of October 2025, they grew 15.1% MoM. Maruti Suzuki retained leadership with 42.5% market share, followed by Tata Motors and Mahindra.
October 2026 was a strong month for the Indian car market. Companies recorded wholesale sales of over 500,000 cars during this period. Tata Motors has taken the lead in the battle for the number 2 position.
