Pennsylvania police officer charged with voluntary manslaughter in killing of college student
Investigators say body camera footage shows Glenwood Pysher was unarmed and had his hands up when Officer Sean Farrell fired twice.
- On Tuesday, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele announced that Upper Pottsgrove Police Cpl. Sean Farrell has been charged with voluntary manslaughter for fatally shooting 22-year-old Glenwood Pysher on Aug. 23.
- After a night out celebrating a 21st birthday, Glenwood Pysher mistakenly approached the wrong home on Snyder Road, prompting homeowners to call 911 in fear of a break-in.
- Body camera footage shows Pysher had his hands raised and was complying with commands when Farrell fired two fatal shots. Steele stated, "This is not a legal use of lethal force under Pennsylvania law."
- Following the charges, Farrell turned himself in, while Pysher's mother, Erin Pysher, criticized the officer's use of force. "The cops should have never resorted to such force," she said.
- Officials released investigation details Tuesday showing Farrell had less-lethal alternatives on his utility belt, including a taser, that he did not employ. Farrell, who served since 2005, remains on administrative leave.
