Mizzou baseball's season ends at SEC Tournament in blowout loss to Mississippi State
Mississippi State scored 12 runs and held Missouri to 2 as the Tigers were eliminated from the SEC Tournament.
On Wednesday, Missouri's SEC Tournament run ended with a 12-2 loss to 8-seed Mississippi State in seven innings in Hoover, Alabama, eliminating the 16th-seeded Tigers from postseason play.
Head coach Kerrick Jackson concluded his third season leading the program with Missouri finishing 24-31 overall and 6-24 in SEC regular season play, leaving little margin for tournament success.
Mississippi State left fielder Vytas Valincius dominated the contest, finishing 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs, including a three-run shot in the sixth inning that sealed the rout.
With the victory, Mississippi State advances to the SEC Tournament quarterfinals to face top-seeded Georgia on Thursday, May 21, in the next round of competition.
Despite defeating 9-seed Ole Miss in the opening round, Missouri has not won an SEC Tournament game since 2017 and needed a tournament title to qualify for an NCAA Regional.
