Mississippi oyster industry rebuilds as reefs show signs of growth
State officials say reef growth and cultch placement helped push estimated oyster stocks to nearly 400,000 sacks, but fishermen still worry about demand.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources estimated just under 400,000 sacks of oysters across surveyed reefs in the Mississippi Sound as of Sept. 8, up from about 275,000 sacks last year.
