Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum celebrates grand opening
The 40,000-square-foot museum opens with three days of flyovers, reenactments and veteran-led programs, and has 18 months of events planned.
- The Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum officially opened its 40,000-square-foot facility in Little Falls on Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the site's debut.
- Preceding the opening, the museum hosted a ceremony on Friday marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11 at the location on Haven Road near Camp Ripley.
- Exhibits feature the USS Ward, which fired the first American shots of the Pacific War on Dec. 7, 194, and the USS Minneapolis-St. Paul, praised by former commanding officer Neil Rondorf.
- Executive director Randal Dietrich said the museum has about 18 months of programming planned, including the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon conference and State Patrol graduations.
- Operating from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday on its fall schedule, the museum opens to visitors while board member Bill Wroolie hopes area schools will schedule visits.
