Ironworker challenges Rep. Max Miller as the Ohio congressman fights to hold seat amid abuse claims
House Majority PAC has committed more than $8 million for television advertisements to support challenger Brian Poindexter, according to tracking data from AdImpact.
Republican incumbent Max Miller faces Democratic challenger Brian Poindexter in Ohio's 7th congressional district general election. Poindexter, a 46-year-old union ironworker, has attracted strong support among service and manufacturing workers in the race.
In May 2026, Miller's ex-wife Emily Moreno alleged in court filings that he committed physical abuse, including throwing boiling water at her and holding a gun to her head. Miller denies all allegations and has not been charged.
Poindexter, who spent 31 years in labor, focuses on cost of living, claiming working families are "squeezed." He advocates for lower prices on gas, groceries, and healthcare while supporting unions and protecting Social Security.
As early voting begins, Miller's campaign characterized focus on his legal issues as a distraction while both candidates intensify campaigning. Voters will cast ballots on Nov. 3 with the race drawing significant spending from both parties.
The 7th District encompasses southern and western Cuyahoga County, all of Medina and Wayne Counties, and a sliver of northern Holmes County. Control of this seat remains a primary objective for both parties as they compete for a district Trump won by 11 points in 2024.
