Why Floyd Mayweather Fight vs. Mike Zambidis Was Called Off Two Days Before Scheduled Boxing Event
CSI’s lawsuit over alleged breach of contract halted the exhibition after broadcasters and promoters said the event was no longer commercially viable.
Floyd Mayweather's exhibition fight against Mike Zambidis, scheduled for Saturday in Athens, has been canceled. Attorney Melissa Glass cited the "fluid situation on the ground" and "significant damage to the commercial viability" of the event.
CSI Entertainment sued Mayweather in New York, alleging breach of contract regarding "exclusive rights" to produce his upcoming bouts against Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao. The company claims it paid Mayweather more than $4.5 million in advances.
Court filings reveal CSI sought an emergency injunction to halt Saturday's bout, arguing the exhibition jeopardized its contract. Promoter Keane Anis of Front Row claimed the cancellation caused "substantial practical, contractual, commercial and reputational harm" to various third parties.
Front Row claims around $7 million in spent or committed costs and $3 million paid to Mayweather. Additionally, DAZN pulled the event from its broadcast schedule, citing ongoing legal uncertainty surrounding the exhibition.
Despite the cancellation, organizers express confidence the exhibition will occur in the near future, though no makeup date has been announced. The Tyson and Pacquiao fights remain scheduled for later in 2026, pending the outcome of legal proceedings.
The exhibition fight between the former U.S. boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather and the Greek kick-boxing star Mike Zambiadis, originally scheduled for 27 June in Athens, has been cancelled, reports ESPN on Thursday.
