Mike McEwen replaces Matthew Hall on Rylan Kleiter's Saskatoon team as Kleiter moves to third; McEwen has appeared in 10 Briers, officials said.
- On Wednesday, veteran skip Mike McEwen joined Rylan Kleiter's Saskatoon-based team to fill a vacancy, with Kleiter moving to third, Joshua Mattern shifting to second, and Trevor Johnson remaining at lead.
- McEwen, who has competed at the Brier 10 times, was let go last week by his previous team including Colton Flasch, Dan Marsh, and Kevin Marsh; they decided to go younger.
- The new team features three players, all 27, who have curled together since junior. "They are looking for that missing piece to really help elevate their game," McEwen said.
- McEwen is now focused on leading the rink, which currently ranks 11th in Canada. "There were other opportunities out there but this one was the only one that I felt was really worth it," he said.
- With Saskatoon hosting the 2027 Brier, McEwen aims to return to the national championship as a hometown rink. "That's the number one goal for next season is get to the Saskatoon Brier," he said.
