According to leaked documents, Microsoft was working on an operating system that was to run entirely via the AI assistant Copilot. The Windows 11 alternative would have no start menu, desktop, taskbar, or traditional apps.
Documents and a video on the BetaWiki forum reveal Project Aion, an experimental operating system with traces dating back to 2024. This project replaces the Desktop, icons and Start menu with an interface entirely driven by Copilot, hosted in a modified version of the Edge browser.
