Microsoft Brings Tab Intelligence to Edge Browser, and I Dearly Wish Apple Would Add It to Safari
Microsoft says the browser will keep tab-aware chat, long-term memory and other AI tools as it retires a separate Copilot Mode.
Microsoft is retiring the standalone Copilot Mode in Edge, integrating AI tools directly into the browser for both desktop and mobile users.
Testing for the feature began in July last year, allowing users to analyze browser tabs and search for information across multiple open pages before the full rollout.
New features include an AI-powered Study and Learn mode for interactive quizzes, a writing assistant, and the ability to convert open tabs into podcasts.
Users can now leverage the Browse with Copilot tool to compare hotel bookings or smart TVs across open tabs without switching between windows on desktop and mobile.
Microsoft emphasizes user control, stating individuals can "select which experiences you want or leave off the ones you don" through Edge settings to customize their Copilot experience.
