Team USA's Madison Chock and Evan Bates are skating in their fourth Olympic Games together. Chock and Bates' experience has afforded them a chance to help support the younger athletes whenever they need guidance.
After the first day of competition in the figure skating team competition, the US team is in the best position, having collected 25 points. They are currently followed by the Japanese team with 23, and in third place is Italy with 22 points. The men's short program and the pairs dance free program continue on Saturday.
The figure skating program at the Winter Olympics in Cortina, Milan, began on Friday, even before the opening ceremony. After the opening day of the team competition, the United States is ahead of Japan and Italy.
