Michael Schumacher Nurse 'Raped Twice While Unconscious by Son's Racing Friend'
Mawson says the encounter was consensual as the nurse described waking naked, blood on the sheets and pain after the alleged assault.
On Tuesday, Australian racing driver Joey Mawson, 26, went on trial in Nyon, Switzerland, accused of raping a nurse at Michael Schumacher's mansion in Gland on November 23, 2019. The nurse woke on blood-stained sheets unable to recall what happened.
Mawson is a close friend of Mick Schumacher, 26, also a Formula 1 driver, and reportedly stays with the family between races to avoid long flights to Australia. The nurse had worked for the Schumacher family for six years, caring for Michael Schumacher since his 2013 skiing accident.
Court records showed the nurse was carried to her room while heavily intoxicated after feeling unwell at the party. Medical examination revealed injuries consistent with being restrained by force; both the prosecution and defense confirmed both individuals had been intoxicated that night.
Mawson insisted the nurse was 'flirtatious' and invited him into her room, claiming she was 'alert and conscious.' Prosecutors presented text messages where Mawson wrote 'I'm so sorry from the bottom of my heart,' though he maintains the relationship was consensual.
Nurse's lawyer Patrick Michod argued Mawson offered 'no words of regret' and 'no acknowledgment of sexual aggression,' while Mawson suggested her complaint stemmed from resentment over her October 2020 firing. The trial is expected to conclude at 6pm local time.
