Michael Douglas Talks Affair with Kathleen Turner, Growing up in His Dad's Shadow
Douglas says the affair was kept secret for 40 years to protect his family and correct rumors about his love life.
- On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, actor Michael Douglas published his memoir, One Helluva Ride, revealing he and co-star Kathleen Turner maintained a secret romantic relationship while filming the 1984 film Romancing the Stone in Mexico.
- Douglas admitted the pair lied for 40 years "to protect my wife and son," though he and then-wife Diandra Luker were separated and both having extramarital affairs while filming the project.
- Following a confrontation with Luker on the Mexico set, the relationship ended; Turner recently addressed the revelation, stating, "Good heavens what a fuss about something 40 years ago! I love Michael."
- Douglas also confirmed he "fell very hard" for co-star Jeanne Tripplehorn during 1992's Basic Instinct, a relationship previously overshadowed by speculation involving Sharon Stone.
- Douglas's memoir details his battles with cocaine and alcohol abuse across decades; the 82-year-old said writing at this stage of life allowed him to share previously hidden personal experiences.
