Man Utd Boss Carrick Uncertain on De Ligt's Return Date
Manchester United's Matthijs de Ligt has been sidelined for nearly four months with a persistent back injury that may require surgery, putting his World Cup chances at risk, coach Carrick said.
Manager Michael Carrick admitted on Friday that Manchester United defender Ligt may miss the remainder of the season due to a persistent back injury.
Ligt has been sidelined for close to four months since the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Nov. 30, though Club bosses initially thought the injury was relatively minor.
Under former boss Ruben Amorim, Ligt started every one of United's 13 league games before the injury and now faces a race to prove his fitness before this summer's World Cup.
Carrick refused to rule out surgery, stating, "I don't want to get into that at this stage," and admitted recovery timing is "difficult to say."
Third-Placed United faces Bournemouth today to solidify its Champions League qualification bid, with managing defensive stability without Ligt remaining a significant challenge.
