The Cuyutlán lagoon is one of the most important coastal wetland systems in the Mexican Pacific and has been globally recognized since 2011 as part of the List of Wetlands of International Importance Ramsar Site. This biodiverse ecosystem also represents the livelihood of more than 30 fishing cooperatives, shrimp producers, 1,500 salt families, farmers and beekeepers in the region.
