Metrolink Train and Car Collide in Glendale, 1 Person Dead, 1 Pedestrian Injured
One person died and at least two others were hospitalized after Metrolink train 206 hit a car near Glendale's West Broadway and San Fernando Road, authorities said.
- Wednesday morning, Metrolink train 206 struck an occupied car between the Burbank and Glendale stations near San Fernando Road, Glendale police said.
- Glendale Police Department said the vehicle was traveling northbound on West San Fernando Road and attempted a right turn onto Broadway, entering the crossing when it was struck; the cause remains under investigation.
- A woman driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene, three passengers among roughly 150 onboard were injured, and a male bystander hit by debris was hospitalized.
- Tracks between Metrolink Glendale and Burbank-Downtown stations were closed into midday as the coroner arrived around 11:50 a.m., canceling trains 207, 208, 320, 341 and impacting Ventura County Line train 108 with Metro buses shuttling passengers.
- Such collisions are rare but not unheard of, including a June crash in Moorpark killing one and a City of Industry collision last January killing two, prompting ongoing public safety oversight and investigations.
