Meta buys startup Manus in latest move to advance its artificial intelligence efforts

  • On Monday, December 29, 2025, Meta announced it acquired Manus, the Singapore-based AI agent developer, as the owner of Facebook and Instagram steps up AI spending.
  • The move follows Meta's broader strategy of scooping talent, using financial firepower amid the AI arms race and following its $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI this year.
  • Manus says its platform has processed more than 147 trillion tokens and runs over 80 million cloud-based virtual computers; earlier this month, it reported exceeding $100 million annual recurring revenue.
  • Meta will fold Manus employees into its teams, and The Wall Street Journal reported the deal closed at more than $2 billion, though Meta declined to disclose financial details.
  • Earlier this year Manus moved its operations from China to Singapore, Tokyo and San Mateo, and a Meta spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday there will be no continuing Chinese ownership interests.
