A pending law to limit Chinese influence in the US auto market could hit Mercedes-Benz hard. It could even be banned from operating in the US altogether because of a shareholder with ties to the Chinese government.
Mercedes risks being cut off from the American car market by a new law that may be introduced. The law imposes sales bans in the United States on car manufacturers that are partly in Chinese hands. And that will also affect Mercedes – 20 percent owned by Chinese parties. "Then they will no longer be allowed to produce, import, or sell," says Noud Broekhof of the Nationale Autoshow.
A bill that could temporarily exclude Mercedes from the US market because of Chinese major shareholders has now taken an important hurdle.
