Mercedes-Benz recalling over 24K vehicles over drive shaft issue
Dealers will inspect and replace the joint if needed after Mercedes-Benz said a break could cut drive power and raise crash risk.
On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Mercedes-Benz announced a recall of 24,092 vehicles, including various 2018 through 2020 models, due to a defect in the drive shaft universal joint.
The drive shaft universal joint may break unexpectedly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, causing a sudden loss of drive power that increases the risk of a crash.
Authorized dealers will inspect the drive shaft universal joint and replace it if necessary. Owners can verify their VIN on NHTSA.gov or call Mercedes customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
The company will send notification letters to all affected owners by June 2, 2026, according to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Separately, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported last week that more than 422,000 Ford vehicles are being recalled over windshield wiper failure, adding to recent industry safety concerns.
