Melaka state election: Anwar's PH, Muhyiddin's Bersatu avoid clashes in 4 seats as candidates confirmed
PH and Bersatu steered clear of direct contests in four seats as 79 candidates were confirmed for the 28-seat state election.
The 16th Melaka State Election officially began with candidate nominations on Saturday, October 31, 2026, setting the stage for a 14-day campaign vying for all 28 state assembly seats before polling day on November 14.
Umno Supreme Council formally endorsed political cooperation with PAS and Perikatan Nasional on Wednesday, October 28, directing all party machinery to support PN candidates using joint campaign infrastructure and manifesto.
Barisan Nasional will contest 21 seats, while Pakatan Harapan fields 24 candidates, and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia contests seven seats across a landscape of multi-cornered fights.
PH has avoided fielding candidates in Lendu, Sungai Udang, Pantai Kundor, and Bemban, seats Bersatu will contest, signaling what analysts describe as an "informal understanding" despite PH's solo campaign decision.
With 687,697 eligible voters casting ballots on November 14, the outcome remains difficult to predict, as analysts warn voter disillusionment over shifting party alliances could suppress turnout across the state.
