Meghalaya gets ₹1,011 crore infrastructure push
Five projects worth ₹1,010.95 crore target water supply, connectivity and healthcare to advance Meghalaya's development across rural and urban areas.
- On Monday, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan laid foundation stones for five infrastructure projects worth ₹1,010.95 crore in Meghalaya and inaugurated a new Maternity and Children's Hospital in Nongstoin.
- Radhakrishnan also visited Gauhati University, where he laid the foundation for a ₹110 crore infrastructure development project including new hostels, library renovations, and auditorium upgrades to boost academic facilities.
- He noted that more than 46,000 km of rural roads were constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana over the past decade, involving expenditure of more than ₹47,000 crore.
- Emphasizing the National Education Policy 2020, the Vice President urged scholars to conduct research addressing community problems, stating every citizen must become developed to realize a "Viksit Bharat" by 2047.
- Praising the declaration of Assamese as a classical language, Radhakrishnan called for enriching India's linguistic diversity and urged Tamil Nadu University to encourage Assamese literature for cultural understanding.
