Meeting on VAT cut for border islands

A two-hour meeting with the regional governors and the mayors of the 19 border islands, where a significant reduction in VAT will apply from January 1, 2026, was held on Wednesday by Economy and Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, along with Alternate and Deputy Ministers Nikos Papathanasis, Thanos Petralias and Giorgos Kotsiras.

The Minister of National Economy and Finance described the first messages received by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance regarding the measures as positive.

“Our goal is to reduce VAT on the outlying islands, phasing out ENFIA and overall tax reduction measures for families, young people, freelancers and farmers to work all together in a way that gives local communities even greater income support. Especially to our locusts and to those who keep the country standing with greater difficulties,” said Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis during an interview on Aeolos TV.
