- Representing 40 percent of the world's population and 25 percent of global GDP, the 25-year-old Shanghai Cooperation Organisation includes Russia, China, India, Pakistan, and Iran, gaining momentum under Beijing and Moscow's leadership.
- Pezeshkian acknowledged his country faces "economic difficulties" as the US targets Iran's trading partners in gold, technology, and maritime transport, with Washington also threatening Iran's allies with sanctions.
- Kremlin spokesman Yuri Ushakov confirmed Putin will hold separate bilateral talks with Pezeshkian and Xi, as the summit occurs four-and-a-half years into Moscow's Ukraine invasion and six months into the ongoing conflict between Washington and Tehran.
- Arriving in Bishkek on Sunday, Xi hailed a "golden period" in relations with Kyrgyzstan, as Russia and China promote their vision of a multipolar world while competing for influence in the resource-rich Central Asian region.
