McDermott Advances Scarborough EPCIC with Successful FPU Floatover

On May 13, 2025, McDermott successfully finalized the fabrication and assembly of the Scarborough FPU topside and hull, followed by the installation of the topside onto the hull through a floatover operation conducted offshore near Dalian, China, for Woodside Energy.
In 2021, McDermott was awarded the EPCIC contract for the Scarborough Energy Project following its successful completion of the initial engineering phase for the project’s floating production unit.
The topside structure, weighing approximately 30,000 metric tons, features six decks and contains 169 key equipment items. The 37,000 metric ton hull was manufactured by COSCO. Both components were transported offshore earlier in May and connected using a floatover method.
This floating production unit is the biggest that McDermott has ever engineered and constructed, ranking among the largest semi-submersible production platforms in offshore history. It is scheduled to be transported to the Scarborough gas field, located about 375 kilometers off the Burrup Peninsula, for mooring.
